‘If dogs run free, then why not we’

January is notable slow on the portrait side .. After the bustle of the holidays most people want to spend the winter months recovering from the craziness and staying warm and bundled up inside.

Most people.. but certainly not dogs.

Dogs don’t care that it’s cold outside.. or that you need to lay low after stuffing your face with holiday foods for the last month.. They don’t care about taking down your Christmas tree or putting away the lights… and they certainly can’t be bothered with New Years resolutions.  And for those reasons, dogs think that January is a perfect time to for some updated portraits.

I was contacted recently by Ralph and Norton, 2 portuguese water dogs from Annapolis.  They needed a reason to be groomed .. a reason to shine .. they needed a moment in the spotlight.  I was happy to oblige so on a chilly January afternoon I headed out to their home to get some photos of them living it up in their dog world.

Despite the obvious language barrier (I don’t speak a word of portuguese) the shoot went perfectly.

Meet Norton and Ralph…..

Did you know you could get the ‘stink eye’ from a dog?  My favorite shot of the day!Laying in the sun is glorious.

Karin - Hahah I love this! I’m also a tad jealous of a life where you get your hair done just to lay in the sun and nap all day…
